Welcome to Mainline South, a gallery compiled by Richard Stiles. The main aim of this gallery is to record the railway scene across Europe. Most of the scenes that interest me are disappearing, with modernisation sweeping away the old (but interesting) infrastructure. My focus is primarily hauled workings, either freight or passenger. Magyar Államvasutak Zrt.(MÁV): Szombathely and Tapolca; August 2011
A week long trip to Szombathely for two nights and then on to Tapolca to sample M62 hauled Summer extras on the Tapolca~Balaton~Budapest Deli services. I preferred the Gyor ~ Celldomolk line to the Balaton line, as the light was perfect for most southbound workings, being a north~south line. The east~west Balaton line has many tight curves, so it was difficult to find locations where the sun angle was 'just right'. That said, an M62 on a passenger train does look effing superb.Read More
