Welcome to Mainline South, a gallery compiled by Richard Stiles. The main aim of this gallery is to record the railway scene across Europe. Most of the scenes that interest me are disappearing, with modernisation sweeping away the old (but interesting) infrastructure. My focus is primarily hauled workings, either freight or passenger. A jaunt to the Nordrhein Westfalen area, staying in Düsseldorf with Messrs Bates & Bearton. Spent two hours sitting at the side of the Rheinbraun with no movement except for a track machine, then the line suddenly became busy. Also managed to see a handful of the last remaining 110s still left in passenger service. A highlight were the two ECS moves which pass west of Hamm on Wednesday afternoon only. Liebe Köln.Read More
