Welcome to Mainline South, a gallery compiled by Richard Stiles. The main aim of this gallery is to record the railway scene across Europe. Most of the scenes that interest me are disappearing, with modernisation sweeping away the old (but interesting) infrastructure. My focus is primarily hauled workings, either freight or passenger. I hope you enjoy browsing through my photographs.
Deutsche Bahn: Gäubahn, Stuttgart, Gingen; January 2014
A short trip to Stuttgart, to see DB's supreme class 115s hauling top link ICs. Also tried to see 103s, but this was something of an epic fail due to one not appearing on the diagram, and the other I did see but was in the middle of a crisis with the memory card, so no photos. Word to the wise, never switch memory cards from camera to camera... Luckily a file recovery service retrieved my photos.Read More
