Welcome to Mainline South, a gallery compiled by Richard Stiles. The main aim of this gallery is to record the railway scene across Europe. Most of the scenes that interest me are disappearing, with modernisation sweeping away the old (but interesting) infrastructure. My focus is primarily hauled workings, either freight or passenger. I hope you enjoy browsing through my photographs.
Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français (SNCF): Chaumont, Chalindrey and Belfort; Sep14
Heading for Switzerland, but took the slow route via Paris, Chaumont and Belfort to see the large CC72100 locos on the Paris Est ~ Belfort line. Well pleased to finally have one for haulage, and they are about 1,000 times better than the plastic crap that will replace them. Enjoy the CC72100s whilst you can, as they only have a year or two left before replacement (as at October 2014).Read More
