Welcome to Mainline South, a gallery compiled by Richard Stiles. The main aim of this gallery is to record the railway scene across Europe. Most of the scenes that interest me are disappearing, with modernisation sweeping away the old (but interesting) infrastructure. My focus is primarily hauled workings, either freight or passenger. My only visit to Ireland to date, but looking back at these photos show that it was a timely visit as loco haulage has since declined considerably. Furthermore, some of the freight workings have since been lost to road haulage and the unusual Cravens stock has been withdrawn.Read More
