Welcome to Mainline South, a gallery compiled by Richard Stiles. The main aim of this gallery is to record the railway scene across Europe. Most of the scenes that interest me are disappearing, with modernisation sweeping away the old (but interesting) infrastructure. My focus is primarily hauled workings, either freight or passenger. A trip to try and track down 1142s, not all that easy because some of the booked workings didn't produce, but I managed a few shots at least. Also visited the utterly stunning Semmering Pass. On the first visit the weather was freezing cold and not at all nice, but the next day the sun shone and it was t-shirt weather. Wonderful line, nice and busy and most freights were banked which really adds to the interest.Read More
