Welcome to Mainline South, a gallery compiled by Richard Stiles. The main aim of this gallery is to record the railway scene across Europe. Most of the scenes that interest me are disappearing, with modernisation sweeping away the old (but interesting) infrastructure. My focus is primarily hauled workings, either freight or passenger. ÖBB Ostereich BundesBahn: Sankt Pölten, Klagenfurt; September 2013
A flight out to Linz and back from Klagenfurt with Ryan Air, with time spent in between on the Mariazellerbahn to sample its superb class 1099 electrics. My usual luck, the day I arrived, was the day new units took over from 2095 hauled trains. The scenery and fresh mountain air more than made up for the disappointment of not seeing 2095s in service.
